FIONA JAMES HAS CONFIRMED ANOTHER YEAR WITH ACADEMY MOTORSPORT IN THE EUROPEAN GT4 SERIES

Fiona James, owner and founder of Walero, has confirmed a second year in the European GT4 Series with Academy Motorsport.

Last year, Fiona partnered up with Academy Motorsport team owner and professional driver, Matt Nicoll-Jones, driving an Aston Martin Vantage GT4.

Different year, different car! Fiona is delighted to announce she will contest the highly competitive European GT4 championship again this year with the highly professional Academy Motorsport.

Academy have invested in a pair of brand-new stunning Aston Martin Vantage GT4 cars which they will campaign in the British GT and European GT4 series. Last year Fiona paired up with team owner Matt Nicoll-Jones; however, this year she will be driving with the very talented up and coming young driver, Tom Wood, in the Pro-Am class.

Tom is a very talented young driver who is part of the MSA academy program. He has been very successful in the Ginetta Junior Championship as well as having won several titles in Karting before he made the move into cars.  2018 saw Tom driving with Academy Motorsport in the old Vantage GT4, where he proved his talent despite some issues with the 12-year old model.PreviousNext

The team all came together on the 28th February for what was a successful shakedown at a wet Silverstone National circuit. All the team members coming away from the circuit with big smiles on their faces and the prospect of a great year of racing.

The car looked, sounded and felt absolutely amazing. Whilst there was only a limited opportunity to really test the handling on the short circuit, the car seemed to handle really well, and the brakes were fantastic. I’m really looking forwards to getting out on a longer track in the near future to really start exploring what the car can do.

Last year was a big step up for Fiona but she loved every minute developing and improving her driving. The European GT4 championship is extremely competitive with some very impressive machinery as well as top international drivers. The new car should be more competitive than the old car and Fiona is really looking forward to working with the team at Academy, and of course Tom!
